Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a part-time (0.4 FTE) Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional. This is a basic science lab that researches the neonatal innate immune response and key transcriptional signaling pathways activated after various clinically relevant exposures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 80% - Cell culture, molecular biology techniques including plasmid construction, transfections (over-expression plasmids and SiRNA), primer design, expression assays, ChIP, cytosolic and nuclear isolation, protein isolation and quantification, RNA isolation, reverse transcription, real-time QPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry.
  • 20% - General lab maintenance and record keeping.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1-2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • Familiar with RNA isolation, reverse transcription, and quantitative real-time PCR.
  • Cell culture experience, including transfection.
  • Plasmid design and preparation, primer design and verification.
  • Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP).
  • Experience with Immunohistochemistry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:
  • Able to handle and perform experiments using various murine models of human disease.
  • Strong experience in cell culture.
  • Able to construct and test expression plasmids, and perform cell transfection.
  • Able to design primers and perform ChIP.
  • Must be willing to learn new techniques as needed, pay attention to detail, and work well in a lab with multiple investigators.
  • The ideal candidate will be reliable, personable, highly motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work independently, as well as under the direction of multiple investigators.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, productive research group.

Anticipated Salary Range:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $18,000 to $22,896 (calculated for 0.4 FTE).

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
