Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2023-2024 academic year, we enrolled over 15,000 students in which 51% identify as Latinx, 13% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% as Black/African American, 26% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 4% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to providing services responsive to the students it serves.
Providing services for Clovis Community College, the coordinator will be responsible for:
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Work closely with the Dean of Instruction (Natural and Health Sciences) to plan implementation of the MESA program;
- Collaborate with faculty members to identify and implement plans to meet the needs of students and improve student learning outcomes;
- Maintain regular contact and increase engagement with students in the MESA program through personal discussions, regular meetings, and other activities;
- Maintain regular contact with the College Office of Instruction, Deans, and faculty to promote an understanding of the MESA services and build a program of academic rigor;
- Collect and compile data, prepare status reports as required by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO), and participate in campus activities that lead to the collection and submission of MESA participant data for the CCCCO Management Information System;
- Assist with preparing mid-year and annual programmatic and financial reports of MESA generated funds;
- Maintain a file on each MESA participant with information on students' enrollment, academic performance, participation, and current status;
- Provide ongoing evaluation of the campus MESA program and recommend steps to improve it;
- Assist with processing budget items, monitoring expenses and working with the Dean and Faculty Sponsor in planning;
- Review all student applications for admission to MESA and make recommendations, as appropriate;
- Work with department faculty to select best available mathematics, science, computer science, and engineering teaching assistants and/or tutors for MESA participants;
- Recruit, hire, and train student tutors;
- Assist with the recruitment, hiring and training of facilitators;
- Develop plans for implementation of program in cooperation with the Faculty Sponsor, Chancellor's Office State Project Monitor, deans, and other members of the faculty;
- Develop a tutoring and study program for MESA which includes the recruitment and training of tutors (peer, volunteer, and community college sources), and which incorporates a mix of individual small and large group study activities;
- Recruit and schedule speakers for meetings of MESA participants;
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate career advising and job orientations for MESA participants;
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate activities related to academic advising, including advocacy and selection of designated MESA counselor;
- Develop, plan, and coordinate activities related to student retention;
- Maintain contacts and encourage the formation of a pipeline and pathway for students between MESA and four-year colleges and universities;
- Work with the local campus staff and/or regional MESA colleagues in order to research and prepare grant proposals for collaborative submissions;
- Maintain regular contact with the Chancellor's Office State Project Monitor, complete reports, evaluations, and any other request by due date;
- Attend orientation, trainings, and meetings for MESA Program Directors;
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;
- Serve on college-wide committees and attends faculty meetings, as necessary to support and enrich college programs and activities, and participating in student success initiatives;
- Work assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group services as needed; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Any master's degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed; or
- A master's degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology or other master's degree with emphasis in adult learning theory; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
- A master's degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed (preferred: mathematics-based field);
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment with African American, Native American, Mexican-American and other Latin American undergraduate students pursuing degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, science, or technical fields;
- Experience of one year or more in delivering student academic services aimed at improving academic, study, test taking, and other skills where the students are majoring in mathematics-based fields;
- Successful work experience of a minimum of three years in education, industry or other profession involving work with postsecondary students in mathematics-based fields;
- Experience directing activities requiring management and leadership skills;
- Experience with public and/or private postsecondary institutions;
- Familiarity with organizational, operations, and structural functions of postsecondary institutions;
- Ability to work independently, assume responsibility, and take initiative in carrying out assignments;
- Strong writing and communication skills;
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment:
178-191 duty days per year. Contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $71,054 - $114,781 based on education and experience. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
